FindNot News and Articles :: Since the connection between my computer and your server is encrypted, shouldn't I see the little padlock in my browser, indicating encryption?Since the connection between my computer and your server is encrypted, shouldn't I see the little padlock in my browser, indicating encryption?
The padlock denotes an SSL connection. Secured Sockets Layer (SSL) is a protocol that transmits your communications over the Internet in an encrypted form. It front-ends HTTP to give you HTTPS. It can also do this for POP3, SMTP, IMAP, and just about any other TCP application. If you log in to our e-mail server, you will notice that it is SSL encrypted.
The encryption used in our connections are not via SSL. Put 'SSL' and 'SSH' in your favorite search engine. There are many sources for technical info about both.
