INFORMATION FOR LINUX USERS

We have been able to put together (thanks to some help from our users) instructions for setting up the SSH tunnel if you are running linux. So far this works with major distributions of linux that have openssl and openssh installed. If your distribution doesn't have these installed, they are available on the net.

Keep in mind these are general instructions, and they sum up our support for linux.

Step 1: Connect via SSH Tunnel using SOCKS4 Proxy

  1. Install openssl and openssh from your distro's repository if you don't have it installed already (most distributions have it already)

  2. Find the the server you want to connect to on the servers page:

    http://www.findnot.com/servers.html

  3. Open a new console, and type the following:

    ssh -D 1088 -p 80 username@vpnX.findnot.com

( Where X is the server number from 1 to 29, and username is your findnot username, all lowercase) You can also log in to ipeliminator.com servers by entering:

    ssh -D 1088 -p 80 username@netX.ipeliminator.com

( Where X is the server number from 1 to 4, and username is your ipeliminator username, all lowercase)

*** Using ssh connections from the console will require the console to stay open. Do not close the console or your connection will be lost.

Step 2: Configure Your Applications

In your application, enter the following in the proxy settings:

Socks type: socks4
Socks server: 127.0.0.1
Port: 1088

To setup FireFox:

  1. Choose Tools--> Options--> Connection settings.

  2. Choose 'Manual proxy configuration'

  3. Enter 127.0.0.1 in the 'SOCKS Host' ONLY, and 1088 in the 'Port' box. The "Use No Proxy" box should be blank.

  4. Click ok, close firefox.
