Security Tips & Info

When you bookmark findnot change the bookmark name to something else that sounds boring like the name of a search engine or news site. Why make it easy for someone.

Computers have many hidden files which normally do not get deleted. Get a program like evidence eliminator which deletes these files and can overwrite the free space on your hard drive numerous times with x's and 0's making the recovery of deleted data about impossible if you overwrite it 7 times or so.

Reformatting your hard drive is far from secure, it still allows data to be recovered. Each time you reformat it does increase security so more is better.

Encrypted folders can be a plus if you get hacked into or lose control of your computer physically as in theft, loss, etc. Consider placing high security info in encrypted folders again using high security passwords - 13 characters, alpha-numeric case sensitive. There is very capable freeware out there just do a search for encryption freeware.

Do install the updates for your browser and operating system as they come available.

Do have and use an anti-virus program that is frequently updated.

In some cases storing files on a server in another country can be advantageous especially if there is no written record of it on your end. Files can be stored in free e-mail service providers accounts under draft mode or you can send yourself a file attachment from the service to yourself at the service and have it in your sent folder or inbox, of course making sure you are on our service when doing so. If no one knows about the account but you and it is committed to memory guess what it stays private.
