Quick Start
This software is automatically configured to block popups in Internet
Explorer as soon as you run it. There is no additional setup required.
However, you may wish to customize some of the features, so we suggest
you read this introduction.
Stopping Popups
When first run, the check box labeled “Popup Blocking: Stop popups from
all sites that aren't on my allowed list” should be checked by default.
If you want to temporarily stop blocking popups, you can uncheck this
box.
Opening links in new windows
In some cases this software will block legitimate popups, such as when
you click a link in a webpage that opens in a new window. The following
features are provided to reduce this type of behavior:
Exceptions:
Check the box labeled “Exceptions: Allow popups when my mouse is over
a link. This will assume that a popup is the result of clicking a link
that opens in a new window, as long as your mouse is over the link when
the popup attempts to open. This option will make popup blocking slightly
less accurate, since there is always the possibility that you will be
moving your mouse over a link at the exact time that an illegitimate
popup attempts to open.
You may also use one of the following methods to allow the next popup
and then click on the link again:
Allowing the Next Popup:
- Press Windows + Z. (The Windows Key is between Control and Alt,
and contains the Windows logo).
- Right click the icon in the taskbar and select “Allow the next
popup”
- Click the button on the main program screen labeled “Allow Next
Popup“
Using any of the methods above a second time, before the next popup
is shown, will toggle the software back to blocking the next popup.
Setup Mode
The check box labeled “Setup Mode: Add sites to my Allowed or Disallowed
list as I browse” should be checked by default the first time you run
the software.
When running in Setup Mode, you will be prompted whenever a website
attempts to open a popup. You will be presented with three options:
- Allow: By clicking this, the current site will be added
to your Allowed List and no popups from that site will be blocked
in the future. The popup that is attempting to open will be displayed.
You will not be prompted again when this site attempts to open a
popup. You may want to allow websites you visit frequently which
have lots of links that open in new windows.
- Disallow: By clicking this, the current site will be
added to your Disallowed List. The popup attempting to open will
be blocked. You will not be prompted again when this site attempts
to open a popup. Please note that once you turn off Setup Mode,
all popups from sites that aren't on your Allowed List will be blocked.
You do not have to add every site you want to block popups from
to the Disallowed List. Its only purpose is to prevent you from
being prompted again while running in Setup Mode.
- Cancel: This will let the popup through. The next time this
site tries to open a popup you will be prompted again.
After a day or two of browsing your favorite sites, and choosing
which sites to allow popups from, you can safely turn off Setup Mode
and you will never have to deal with another annoying popup again.
To turn off Setup Mode, just uncheck the checkbox labeled “Setup Mode:
Add sites to my Allowed or Disallowed list as I browse”
