Anyone in the US who still uses TorrentSpy will want to find alternatives, as the search site no longer welcomes visitors from US IP addresses.Conflicting aspects of American and European Union privacy laws, and the threat of MPAA litigation, has led the TorrentSpy site to reject attempts to connect from US visitors.
TorrentFreak cited the issue at TorrentSpy, where US visitors encounter this message upon arrival:
Torrentspy Acts to Protect Privacy
Sorry, but because you are located in the USA you cannot use the search features of the Torrentspy.com website. Torrentspy's decision to stop accepting US visitors was NOT compelled by any Court but rather an uncertain legal climate in the US regarding user privacy and an apparent tension between US and European Union privacy laws. The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) upped the ante against TorrentSpy by attempting to compel them into keeping logs of their visitors' activities, according to TorrentFreak. MPAA wants the search site to keep records of everything temporarily stored in RAM as requests and results pass through.
