If you do online banking or shopping, it's never a good idea to click on links in an email. ALWAYS go to the site in question and log in as you would normally. From the article:
Most fake e-mails and their linked bogus websites look real as they are copied from genuine websites. Even the web address on the link will look legitimate. But look out for any of the following which will show up on a bogus communication:
•Banks and building societies will only e-mail you with promotional offers, to inform you of any changes you have made to your account or to update their interest rates. They never ask for account details or log-in information.
• It will ask you to input your full account details, which a bank would never do.
• It will be generically addressed, rather than to you.
• It will ask you to click on a link or open an attachment. If the link starts with HTTP, it is a spoof. A genuine site would start HTTPS - the 'S' signifies it's secure.
