In Sintesi
Opzioni di Sicurezza
  • Alta sicurezza

  • Sicurezza Media

4. Choose a server.
  5. Click Connect.
  6. Enter your user id and password as prompted.
  7. To disconnect, run the same file (which you downloaded in step 1) and and choose "Hangup".
  8. *** Bookmark this page. You will want to come back and re-download the software as new servers become available. You can always see a complete list of available servers here.

NEW - Use your FindNot.com username and password to connect to ipEliminator VPN servers!

Manual Setup Instructions (Only follow these steps if you don't wish to use our software.)

Follow these easy instructions to connect to our network. If you experience any problems please do not hesitate to contact us.

  1. Start the "create a new connection wizard" built into windows.
    1. In windows 2000 click on Start > Settings > Network and dialup settings > Make New Connection
    2. In windows XP click on Start > Connect to > Show all Connections. Now there should be an option that says "add a new connection" or "create a new connection" - choose it
  2. You should now have a screen that looks like this. The screens show below will vary depending on the version of windows you have but most settings are similar enough to follow along. Click NEXT.

Choose the connection type that mentions VPN in the title or description as seen below. Click NEXT.

Choose Virtual Private Network connection. Click NEXT.

Click here to choose a server and then enter it here. For example, enter vpn4.findnot.com and click NEXT.

Choose "Do not dial the initial connection". This setting is really optional depending on your preference. Click NEXT.

Click here to choose a server and then enter it here. For example, enter vpn4.findnot.com and click NEXT. Note that this should be the same vpn server you choose a moment ago. (Two steps ago)

Click "Add a shortcut ...." as shown below.

Next start up the vpn connection. On most versions of windows it will open automatically. Enter your "User Name" and "Password" and click Connect. Optionally you can choose to save the user name and password if you like.

The connection should be complete in just a few seconds. If it does not try to connect one more time. If it still fails to connect then repeat the steps above as you likely made a mistake in the above procedure.

If you can connect but are unable to browse some or all websites then click here.

If you still can't get it to work please contact us.

Socks Proxy Service Setup Instructions

To use the "socks proxy service" please enter the following settings in your favorite socks aware software.

Socks server: vpnX.findnot.com (where X is the server number). See our list of servers here.
Port: 1088
User ID: your_user_id
Password: your_password

Please note that the port is 1088 NOT 1080 as is the normal default. This was done because some services/software make sure you are not coming from a proxy (ie. IRC chat). This setting will defeat their proxy detection.

VERY IMPORTANT:

If your user id has Capitals (upper case), your socks proxy user id is to be entered in lower case (which is different than for the vpn).

if your user id contains characters "* @ ." (yes that is a period just before the quote) you need to omit those characters.

ie. John*smith@hotmail.com ==> johnsmithhotmailcom

Now you might be asking yourself: So what if I my favorite software doesn't support socks proxies? Don't worry. There is a free program you can use that will "proxify" any software. (Even outlook express!) It is called "sockscap32" and you can download it from here. (This company asks you for personal information relating to your download but does NOT check to make sure what you enter is valid.) They also have a commercial version that is more complicated (and has more features) but these instructions will be limited to their more than adequate free version.

OK. Let's get started. First double click on the sockscap32 installation file you downloaded. (or you can choose the "open" option in your browser if you prefer). You should get a screen as below.

Click Yes.

Click Next.

Click Next.

Click Yes.

Click Next.

Click Next.

Click Next.

Click the options as above and then click Finish.

Click Accept.

click OK.

You might not get this screen as it may only come up if you have a previous version of sockscap installed. If you get it click "Yes"

Now you need to choose a server. To see a list click here. Now enter that server into the screen as shown below along with the other settings. Be sure to replace the X with the actual server number you wish to use.

If you don't get the above window then you need to launch sockscap32. An icon should be in you start menu. You may get the screen below. If so fill it in as seen below OK. Now you can click FILE - SETTINGS menu and you will get the above screen.

Enter your user id and password. If you user id contains capitals you need to enter it in lower case. If your user id contains any of these characters: "*@." please omit them. ie. if you user id as JoeSmith@hotmail.com you would enter joesmithhotmailcom

Click OK.

Now comes the interesting part. Any programs that you want to be proxied can be added into the above window by clicking and dragging. The only icon that doesn't seem to work properly using this procedure is the internet explorer icon on the desktop. You can get around this, however, by clicking the internet explorer icon from your "quick start icons" on your toolbar. After dragging an icon into the above window you get a little menu that asks what you want to do. Click on the option that says "New application profile". The windows below will appear. All the settings should be correct already but you can modify the profile name if you wish. Click OK.

Now do the same for internet explorer. (Note that the desktop icon does not work for some reason so you have to find an internet explorer icon somewhere else on your computer. As a last resort you can click and drag it from your start menu into the sockscap window.)

Continue adding as many programs as you wish.

To run a program in proxied mode you just need to double click on the icon WITHIN the sockscap control window.

**** VERY IMPORTANT: If you mistype either the user id or password you will NOT get an error message. Instead when you try to use the proxied program, it will not work. So if you were trying to use internet explorer and you mistyped either you id or password you will get an error page whenever you try to browse a web site. If this happens close sockscap and start it again and then carefully enter your password again.

SSH Proxy Setup Instructions

Step 1: Setup the tunnel on port 80.

Download the FindNot SSH tunnel software. We provide it in two formats. A self-extracting exe file for easy installation and a zip file for those who prefer to do it themselves.

When prompted choose where you would like findnot SSH tunnel installed. By default it will be installed into a folder on your desktop.

To activate the tunnel double click on one of the icons that say "Start Server X SSH Tunnel" where X is the server you wish to connect to.

If you do not have permission to install this software, you can click here to run it right from our website!

VERY IMPORTANT:

If your user id has Capitals (upper case), your socks proxy user id is to be entered in lower case (which is different than for the vpn).

if your user id contains characters "* @ ." (yes that is a period just before the quote) you need to omit those characters.

ie. John*smith@hotmail.com ==> johnsmithhotmailcom

Step 2: Configure your applications to use the following socks proxy settings:

Socks server: 127.0.0.1
Port: 1088

Please note that although you are configuring your applications to use port 1088 this is NOT the port that data will leave your computer on. It will be redirected into our SSH tunnel on port 80.

It may not come as a surprise to you that Internet Explorer is pretty much the hardest application to configure ;-) To make things a little easier here are the instructions for setting up IE:

  1. Click: TOOLS - INTERNET OPTIONS - CONNECTIONS - LAN SETTINGS
  2. Check the box that says "Use a proxy server..."
  3. Click: ADVANCED
  4. Go down to the box labeled "Socks:" and enter 127.0.0.1 for the IP and 1088 for the port.
  5. Click OK and your done. Click here to check your ip.

As I implied earlier, most other apps are much easier to setup. If you have permission to install software then I recommend you install FireFox and configure it to run through the proxy. That way you can still use IE normally without messing with the proxy settings. It also makes it much easier to tell when you are running through the tunnel or not.

NEW - Use your FindNot.com username and password to connect to ipEliminator SSH servers!

OK. You are done. Fire up your application and it should be communicating over the SSH Tunnel. The rest of these instructions are for applications that don't support socks proxies which is very rare these days.

Sockscap: YOU DON'T NEED SOCKSCAP in for most application. These instructions are here for your convenience only. Most users will not need these instructions.
